Americans and Israelis Define Jewish Identity Register in advance for this webinar: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN__2wDV4GEQLOrOfxhvA6VIA After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Rabbi Shira Stutman (Senior Rabbi @Sixth and I Historic Synagogue) As Sixth & I’s Senior Rabbi, my focus is to make Jewish meaning and build Jewish community for young professionals. I support a number of boutique communities, including workshops for interfaith couples and those interested in joining the Jewish community. When not at Sixth & I, I’m a member of the board of directors of Jews United for Justice and on the J Street rabbinic cabinet. I graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 2007, where I was a Wexner Graduate Fellow. I am an alumna of Columbia University and the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School. I married someone who I met while interning on Capitol Hill and we now have three kids. My favorite t-shirt reads: “This is what a real rabbi looks like.” Ruth Calderon (Former Member of Knesset and Founder @Elul) Calderon was born in Tel Aviv in 1961 to a Sephardic father who emigrated to British controlled Mandatory Palestine from Bulgaria and an Ashkenazi mother originally from Germany. She grew up in what she describes as "a very Jewish, very Zionist, secular-traditional-religious home that combined Ashkenaz and Sepharad, Betar and Hashomer Hatzair," and attended public schools. She earned a BA at Oranim Academic College and the University of Haifa, and went on to earn her MA and Ph.D. degrees in Talmud from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1989, she established the first Israeli secular, pluralistic and egalitarian Beth Midrash for women and men. In 1996 she founded ALMA, which seeks to acquaint secular Israelis with Hebrew culture. She hosted a TV show on Channel 2 that invited guests to discuss classic and modern Jewish texts. Rabbi Seth Farber (Founder @Itim) Rabbi Seth Farber is an Orthodox rabbi and social activist who founded ITIM in 2002. Since then, he has become a leading figure in religion-and-State issues in Israel who is often cited by the media, and is sought after as a public speaker. Rabbi Farber was honored with a Nefesh B'Nefesh Bonei Zion Prize in 2015, and an Israel Ministry of Aliyah Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Israeli Society in 2018. He was ordained by the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University, and received a BA from New York University, an MA in Judaic Studies from Yeshiva University, and a PhD in Jewish History from the Hebrew University.
