Panelists will discuss the initiatives they represent, their successes and challenges, and the future outlook. Below are abbreviated bios of the panelists (see the flier for complete bios):

Rebekah Ratliff is a credentialed former commercial insurance claims professional, with more than 25 years of experience in evaluating, negotiating and resolving complex liability cases for global commercial insurance carriers, nationwide and internationally, with settlements totaling in the millions. Rebekah is a Mediator and Arbitrator with the Judicial Arbitration Mediation Service (JAMS), the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution services in the world.

Professor Homer La Rue is Professor of Law at the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. He is the founder and co-director of the Howard Law ADR Program. He also directs an externship program with the World Bank Group. Professor La Rue is an arbitrator and a mediator of labor, employment, and commercial disputes with over 35 years of experience.

Dr. Katherine Simpson, FCIArb is an international arbitrator based in the U.K. (33 Bedford Row Chambers) and the U.S. (Simpson Dispute Resolution). She has served sole arbitrator in international commercial disputes and has participated in international commercial and investor-state cases chaired by Profs. Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel and William W. Park, among other leading arbitrators. She is an educator who lectures frequently on topics related to international arbitration and advocacy, and her international efforts to increase diversity in international dispute resolution include “The New List: Arbitrators of African Descent with a U.S. Nexus” (with Nancy M. Thevenin) and “CETA – Where are the Women?”, which was shortlisted for GAR’s “Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge”-Award (2020).
