Dysphagia is a common complaint after total laryngectomy and significantly affects the patients quality of life. This webinar discusses the incidence, causes, prevention and (surgical) treatment options of postlarygectomy dysphagia. Also evidence and experience of a postoperative (early) oral feeding protocol will be presented.
Finally, the role of the Speech Language Pathologist will be discussed. How to identify and monitor dysphagia in this patient population? In addition examples of diagnostic tools and interpretation, compensatory techniques, dietary changes and therapeutic techniques to improve outcomes will be given.
