In this 4- hour 'Live Academy Class', Michael will go focus on using his Grasshopper 3d plugin Pufferfish alongside Rhino 7 WIP’s new SubD modeling tools for a fresh and unique morphing workflow. This course is an intermediate level in concept but as you will learn through the course, Pufferfish makes many often-difficult tasks in Grasshopper seem as easy as beginner level work. Participants should have basic knowledge of Grasshopper and preferably have also looked over the example files provided on the Pufferfish download page.The webinar will focus on two primary aspects; custom tile-able unit cell creation with SubDs and various ways of generating Twisted Box sets via Pufferfish to morph the cells into. Pufferfish is a Grasshopper3d plug-in that focuses on Tweens, Blends, Morphs, Averages, Transformations, & Interpolations - essentially Shape-Changing. The primary part of Pufferfish we will focus on is Twisted Boxes and morphing. A Twisted Box is a spatial deformation object to which geometry can be morphed to. The geometry we will be morphing will be cells created using Rhino 7 WIP’s powerful new SubD geometry tools which make complex cell creation much easier than Nurbs or Mesh-based workflows.First, we will investigate how to use Rhino 7 WIP’s new SubD tools to create various types of unit cells for different types of connection, blending, and patterning. Once we have built up a library of cells, we will go over the many various ways Pufferfish enables you to create editable live rigs of connected Twisted Boxes for the cells to morph to. Lastly, we will explore finishing techniques both in SubD and Mesh for joining and smoothing cells together as well as further editing the design post morphing.
