Professor Gillian Leng, Chief Executive of NICE, will be joining Professor Roger Kirby, RSM President, for a conversation about her career, her thoughts on the COVID vaccinations and booster immunisations, how NICE COVID-19 guidelines have changed with the evolution of new evidence about the virus, her strategic approach to improving NICE guidelines and evaluating medicines, and finally, Gillian will be talking about how NICE engages with and propels the life science industry by supporting and providing health technology assessment.
Gillian trained in medicine at Leeds and as a Junior Doctor she was struck by variations in clinical practice, this developed into a passion for using evidence to improve care. She then moved to work on clinical trials and epidemiological research in Edinburgh, and later, was a Public Health Consultant in London. She was an Editor for the Cochrane Collaboration for many years and is now chair of the Guidelines International Network.
Her career has spanned research, evidence synthesis, management, and healthcare.
Her focus as Chief Executive of NICE has been to transform the organisation with new methods and processes to enable NICE to remain at the forefront of evaluating new medicines, devices and diagnostics, and deliver dynamic, living guidelines that benefit everyone.
