This session is delivered by Dr Marcus Carter as part of the University of Sydney's Postgraduate Masterclass Series.
Networked computer games are increasingly prominent in today's mediascapes, supporting individualised and global practices of play. In this masterclass, we will discuss the phenomenon of digitally mediated spectatorship such as eSports, a significant emerging industry now worth billions of dollars and connecting global audiences. Drawing on media studies, game studies and platform studies, we will explore the appeal of this practice and themes such as the complication of leisure and work spaces, new media industries, playbour and gaming capital.
This masterclass delivers content from ARIN6904 Mobile Media and Games, a core unit offered as part of the Master of Digital Communication and Culture.
