It seems like the West is waking up. Almost overnight, trade between East and West seems to be suddenly taking shape. Despite pressure from the US, on 31 December 2020, the EU and China concluded negotiations on the EU Comprehensive Agreement On Investment (CAI). Then on 1 February 2021, the UK formally applies to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). And meanwhile, almost silently, China and 14 other Asia-Pacific countries signed the world's largest trade agreement in November 2020, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
In this Media Briefing, hosted by Guanlidao, Prof Liu focuses on the CAI, puts it in context with the RCEP and comments on the current developments with the CPTPP.
As ever, Prof Liu aims to keep the presentation to around 20 minutes to allow 40 minutes for questions and discussion.
