Moving from Cards to Credentials: Tokenization and Digital Identity for Payments in Latin America
Despite the limited penetration of payment cards among the overall population, there is a critical mass of credit and debit card holders:

• 171 million Latin Americans are debit card holders
• 78 million Latin Americans are credit card holders

More importantly, Latin Americans are buying both physical goods and digital goods in rapidly growing numbers:

• 292 million users of Mercado Libre

• 20 million Uber users

• 15 million Rappi users

And neobanks and digital wallets (i.e. MACH, Ualá, Nequi, CoDi) are increasingly enabling mobile-based payments for e-commerce transactions and in the physical world.

So what does it mean when a consumer makes an in-person payment over a mobile device? Can this be considered a card-present transaction? How will the industry respond as the distinction between card-present and card-not-present becomes increasingly blurred?

One implication is that that traditional IDs for payment verification are giving way to digital identity so as to deliver a seamless, simple experience for customers who want goods and services.

Additionally, tokenization and other technologies to ensure seamless digital payment are becoming increasingly essential.

In this webinar our experts will explore the implications of this industry shift, such as:

• Use cases for biometrics and other forms of digital identity
• Tokenization enabling card-less transactions
• Opportunities for banks and fintechs to capitalize on this growing industry need

We’ll also focus on what these insights mean for both financial institutions and merchants, exploring strategies that can promote adoption by consumers … and adaptation by the key players in the payments ecosystem.
