Webinar Wednesday: Managing Mental Health Issues
Students enter schools bringing the impact of traumatic experiences with them. This webinar will focus on strategies being used by principals and schools to manage mental health issues. Speaker Joy Winchester will share her experiences with schools in Alabama who are implementing a program called Conscious Discipline that empowers adults to consciously respond to daily conflict, transforming it into an opportunity to teach critical life skills to children. Speaker Jenine "Jen" Thomas, Principal at Olive B. Loss Elementary School will discuss strategies and resources educators need to meet the diverse and complex needs of students facing adverse childhood experiences (ACES). She will share her work with supporting the social-emotional needs of educators and how adult stressors can affect a school’s ability to sustain strong and effective mental health supports.

Dr. Joy Winchester, Director, Alabama Office of Early Childhood Development and Professional Support, Montgomery, Alabama. She has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for over twenty years and has worked with every age group from infants to second grade.

Mrs. Jenine "Jen" Thomas, Principal at Olive B. Loss Elementary School in Appoquinimink School District, Delaware. She has served as an administrator for 11 years, leading 3 different buildings across 2 states.
