Translating CSE Commitments into Action: strategies to successfully implement CSE
Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is essential to realising the sexual and reproductive health and rights of children, adolescents and young people. It is critical for empowering adolescents with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices about their bodies and lives and to realise gender equality, by challenging harmful gender norms and stereotypes.

In recent years, there has been considerable momentum on improving access to and implementation of CSE, both within schools and in out-of-school settings and across both development and humanitarian settings. Political action for CSE has increased in international fora including new commitments to deliver CSE by many governments at the ICPD25 Nairobi Summit in 2019, CSE as a key action in the draft blueprint of the Beijing+25 SRHR Action Coalition, as as a central commitment in the G7 Girls’ Education Declaration of June 2021. However, whilst strong technical guidance on CSE exists, many countries face challenges when seeking to implement it.

This session will explore strategies that governments can use to successfully implement CSE and achieve buy-in. The session will launch a new tool that governments and others can use to ensure that their commitments on CSE translate into tangible action and progress. By showcasing some of the strategies in the tool and how they have been used in different contexts, we seek to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and advance progress on successfully implement CSE across the world.
