Mayfair Art Weekend is delighted to launch the inaugural Mayfair Gallery Publication Award with the winner to be announced at this webinar on Friday 20 November.
The nominated publications have been reviewed by a panel of judges including: curator, critic and author Hettie Judah; the RA Magazine’s editor Sam Phillips; and Apollo Magazine’s editor Thomas Marks.
The judges have selected four finalists, including: ‘Before or After, at the Same Time: Rome, Milan, and Fabio Mauri, 1948–1968’, published by Hauser & Wirth; ‘Fabienne Verdier: Vortex’, published by Waddington Custot; ‘Giulia Andreani’, published by Galerie Max Hetzler; and ‘Ugo Mulas: Creative Intersections’, published by Robilant + Voena.
We are excited to announce that two of the judges, Hettie Judah and Thomas Marks will join MAW Project Manager, Cherie Silver, to discuss gallery catalogues and gallery publishing - using the shortlisted works as examples. With a focus on the critical criteria used by the judges, the overall trends that emerged within the nominated publications, and pointers for galleries to bear in mind when planning publications in the future, this webinar will provide a unique perspective on an significant element of gallery operations that rarely, if ever, receives attention in the wider arts industry.
Following this discussion, we will be joined by Louise Malcolm (Research and Publications Manager at Waddington Custot), and Michaela Unterdörfer (Director of Publications at Hauser & Wirth), Natalia Fuller (Exhibitions Manager at Galerie Max Hetzler), and a representative from Robilant + Voena, for an extended Q&A on the publications from the galleries’ perspectives.
