NHR/AFR-Using Linked Open Data to Map Cultural Heritage Organizations in Georgia for Disaster Response
Through a LYRASIS Catalyst Grant, the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library and partners created a publicly editable directory of Georgia’s Natural, Cultural and Historic Organizations (NCHs), allowing for quick retrieval of information critical for disaster response. Contact and location information was compiled, updated, and uploaded to Wikidata, the linked open database from the Wikimedia Foundation. Information is delivered via a website that allows emergency responders to quickly search for NCHs. Attendees will learn about the NCH disaster planning ecosystem in Georgia, how the directory was created, and how to re-use the project workflows to preserve other states' rich natural, cultural, and historical resources using free online tools.
