Rainforest Alliance Sustainability Summit Series: Protecting and Building Resilience for Migrant Workers in Agriculture
Wednesday, 22 July at 10:00 New York | 16:00 Amsterdam
75 Minutes

In many countries, migrant agricultural workers are among the lowest-paid and most vulnerable workers. Many seasonal and migrant laborers depend on the harvest to support their livelihoods and families throughout the year. When harvest income is vital for putting food on the table and covering basic necessities, workers are more willing to accept sub-standard wages and working conditions. This global online roundtable will look at the following questions in a rich discussion among labor union experts, civil society representatives and companies:

• How can we all work to support migrant workers to build their resilience, now and in the future?
• To what extent are decent working conditions under threat because of the ongoing global health crisis?
• How can we promote living wages as a key component of resilience?
• How will reimagined certification better protect the most vulnerable in supply chains?

Speakers Confirmed to Date:
• Neha Misra, Senior Specialist, Migration and Human Trafficking, Solidarity Center
• Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights
• Norma Flores López, Farmworker Advocate, Chief Programs Officer, Justice for Migrant Women
