The calibration of groundwater models is a relevant task in the entire modelling cycle; however, the uncertainty of model predictions plays even a predominant role. Having a model “calibrated” does not really say much how good our final predictions are.

FEFLOW is the industry standard tool for modelling groundwater flow, mass/reactive transport and heat transport. The FePEST module, part of the FEFLOW family, provides several methods to support you with automatic model calibration, predictive analysis (best/worst-case scenarios), predictive uncertainty, Monte Carlo among others.

Dr. Carlos Rivera Villarreyes, DHI, works as Global Product Specialist for FEFLOW. Dr. Rivera has profound knowledge of groundwater, reactive transport, geothermal and unsaturated-zone modelling as well as parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis (e.g., with PEST), all these in the context of mining, water resources, geothermal energy applications among others. He has carried several consulting projects and trained professionals in groundwater modelling around the globe.
