Francis Bacon: Revelations, Mark Stevens and Annalyn Swan In Discussion with Sebastian Smee
Mark Stevens is the author, with Annalyn Swan, of Francis Bacon: Revelations, published this year by Knopf in the United States and HarperCollins in the UK. His previous biography with Swan, de Kooning: An American Master, won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for biography, among other awards and prizes, and The New York Times named it one of the 10 best books of 2005. Stevens has been the art critic for Newsweek, The New Republic, and New York Magazine and has also written for many other publications, including The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. Swan is the former arts editor of Newsweek and an award-winning music critic. She teaches biographical writing at the City University of New York and the Middlebury Breadloaf School of English

Sebastian Smee is an art critic for the Washington Post and the author of “The Art of Rivalry: Four Friendships, Betrayals, and Breakthroughs in Modern Art.” He won the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in 2011 while at the Boston Globe. He teaches non-fiction writing at Wellesley College. He has written five books on Lucian Freud and one on Mark Bradford, and is currently writing a book about Berthe Morisot and Édouard Manet during the siege of Paris and the Paris Commune, 1870-71.
