Paul Coffey, CEO, Scotland 5G centre
5G is the engine for sustainable growth in Scotland. However, creating a digitally enabled society that can leverage the benefits of the technology will not happen by accident.
Scotland needs to invest in a critical infrastructure to facilitate accelerated digital connectivity and regional economic growth.
We need to stimulate and accelerate the maturity of the technology eco-system. 5G is a connectivity enabler, but not the differentiator; it is the services and applications that are enabled as a result of 5G that will create sustainable growth.
The S5GC “S5GConnect programme” will equip businesses and citizens of Scotland with the skills they need to use 5G technology as an enabler for the good of their business, delivering on Scottish Governments ambition to be a 5G leader and a forward-looking nation.
Passionate about telecoms and delivering socio-economic benefit to a broad range of stakeholders enabling digital connectivity. Previously, as the founder of his consultancy practice, Paul advised organisations on major strategic initiatives, developing coherent plans to deliver organisational goals and increased business value.
Paul began his career at Orange, now EE, and rose through the company to Head of Strategy where he played a key role in establishing the UK’s first deployments of 4G services in rural communities. With a career spanning over 25 years, Paul has built a wealth of industry knowledge to bring to the Scotland 5G Centre as CEO.
