Tools to Support Decoding, Word Identification and Spelling
“D-U-M-B-L-E-D-O-R-E!!!” That is the “end game” - to be able to communicate specific interests, wants, needs, preferences – even if those words “aren’t in the talker.” How do we help all of our students to this point? It is a combination of teaching decoding skills, spelling skills, and identifying words as they come up on the word prediction. Let’s take a closer look at strategies for decoding, word identification and spelling to increase communication independence.
