GRÓ Geothermal Training Programme (GRÓ GTP) is pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming online course on geothermal energy.
While many countries in Africa are endowed with geothermal potential, only a few have harnessed this resource to significant extent. The intent of this course is to highlight the possibilities and benefits associated with geothermal utilization, as well as provide an overview of the process of geothermal development from start to finish. The development of geothermal resources can contribute to the ongoing combat on climate change as well as provide multiple opportunities for social and economic wellbeing.
The course will be held over two consecutive days, April 20-21, four hours each day. The first day is dedicated to the benefits associated with geothermal energy, including electricity generation, direct utilization, production and marketing of various geothermal by-products, opportunities for the tourism sector, and advantages with respect to sustainability and climate change. Geothermal energy will be addressed in the context of the wider energy mix, including that of other renewables, and its contribution as a stable primary energy source will be discussed. In the latter day, the spotlight is cast on project development from initial surface exploration for geothermal resources to project financing and management.
