The workshop "Spatial Hydrology: New perspectives and SWOT mission" is being organized by EOLLAb (Earth Observation Labomar Laboratory) in cooperation with IRD/GET/FUNCEME (Research Institute for Development/Géosciences Environnement Toulouse/Fundação Cearense de Meteorologia e Recursos Hídricos).
The main objective of this workshop, within the framework of the France-Northeast Brazilian scientific animation network, is to introduce space hydrology and its applications, 1 year from the launch of SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) satellite, the first high-resolution satellite mission designed to generated data from continental water bodies as well as ocean's surface topography.
The future international space mission SWOT, which is scheduled to launch in November 2022, is a cooperative project developed by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and CNES (Centre National D'Etudes Spatiales), with contribution from the CSA (Canadian Space Agency) and UK Space Agency.
Based on 12 seminars, the SWOT mission will be presented over two days (November 24-25, 2021), and a panel of experts in the field of remote sensing of the water cycle will discuss different aspects of the science involved in the SWOT mission and its applications.
