Daylighting by Design
This course discusses the benefits of a thoughtfully-designed light control system and how to make it work for your project's natural-lighting and shading needs. The discussion emphases implementing design methods including specification of technologies such sun shades and canopy systems that creates that useful and aesthetically-pleasing daylight systems. Designing to not only minimize solar hear gain and sunlight, but to successfully re-purpose it for great environmental and aesthetic function. LEED credits associated with specifying sun shade and daylighting canopy systems are also discussed.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss the role of sun shade devices in passive and identify how canopies and awnings can contribute to a holistic sustainable building envelope.

Identify which LEED credits sun shades and architectural canopies might contribute toward.
