United States v. One Book Called Ulysses, is an online theatrical presentation of the greatest literary trial of the twentieth century, pitting the publishers, Random House, against the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, which viewed James Joyce’s Ulysses as scandalous and obscene. Writer Colin Murphy and AboutFace Theatre have been commissioned by The James Joyce Centre, Dublin to create this funny and dynamic retelling of the Woolsey Judgement of 1933. It is based on documentary materials with thanks to RTE journalist Declan Dunne, author of Set at Random - The Book That Wouldn’t Lie Down.
"If we can't publish and read Ulysses, then what is the use of anything? - Kevin Birmingham, The Most Dangerous Book, The Struggle for James Joyce's Ulysses.
