'Johann Antel: Revolutionising Time in Early-Twentieth Century Brno', by James Nye
Inspired by the discovery in the late 1990s of a hugely complex turret clock dating to the beginning of the twentieth century, and made by Johann Antel in Brno, the second city of the modern Czech Republic, James spent years researching both the revolutionary technology involved, and the previously unknown maker. His lecture will combine an examination of Antel’s innovative technology with an exploration of the life and circle of this enigmatic German Czech clockmaker - a world in which the two ethnic groups endured changing fortunes.
