Come hear about the successes and lessons learned from the In Chairs 4 Meals pilot at Sunnybrook Hospital. This intervention is part of a larger aspiration prevention strategy and ongoing work being done by the Sunnybrook Hospital Aspiration Working Group. Sunnybrook's Senior Friendly team has also been involved and is currently working on spread to other areas of the hospital as part of a larger mobility initiative, called 'Up 4 Mobility'.
Kellen Baldock is an occupational therapist on the inpatient surgical oncology and complex malignant haematology units at Sunnybrook. He completed the 2018-2019 Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSNp) Fellowship Program. Kellen's project, the 'In Chairs 4 Meals' project worked to reduce aspiration risk by promoting safe positioning during mealtimes.
Jonathan Lo is an occupational therapist in the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, as well as a Performance Improvement Specialist on the Senior Friendly team. His quality improvement portfolio currently focuses on improving patient mobility at Sunnybrook. He is currently developing a strategy to spread the success of the “In Chairs 4 Meals” project across Sunnybrook as part of a patient mobility toolkit.
