In times of trouble, PLEO and Law For Non Profits can help.
Join PLEO Director of Programs, Martha Rans, on Wednesdays for our new Legal Lunch & Learn webinars, lively weekly discussions about legal issues of concern to British Columbia’s non-profit sector. This week we'll be discussing changes to the BC Lobbyists Transparency Act which came into effect on May 4, 2020.
The LTA is meant to increase transparency with respect to who is lobbying the BC government. This legislation has broad implications for the sector. It removed previous thresholds on lobbying activities that organizations were able to undertake in support of their mandate without triggering reporting requirements. Not all organizations will need to register. Registration depends on the number of employees, extent of lobbying activities in proportion of overall budget, and the intended purpose of these activities. In this session we'll discuss the Legislation's key points.
Bring your questions and concerns about the Act as Vantage Point and PLEO are planning to followup with the Registrar following the session
The Legal Lunch & Learn series is made possible through support from the City of Vancouver's Department of Social Planning.
