Understanding Yoga Therapy for Clinical Practice
Presented by Marlysa Sullivan PT, C-IAYT, Assistant Professor Maryland University of Integrative Health
This presentation will describe the explanatory framework and model of yoga therapy as an integrative health profession. Yoga therapy emphasizes the development of eudaimonic and spiritual well-being, alongside the cultivation of systemic mind-body regulation and resilience. Yoga Therapy practices that cultivate healthy interoception, autonomic regulation and resilience, and emotional regulation will be described. It is through these effects that yoga therapy can be an effective integrative health practice for various populations from acute care, to long term rehabilitation and disease management, to end of life care. Clinical and case examples will be offered throughout the presentation.
