Miles Atkins was born in Tampa, Florida and attended Plant High School, where he was student body president and graduated in 1981. He attended Auburn University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Miles began his career in sales & marketing in Tampa and was recruited to Charlotte in 1989 to work in the print and graphic communications industry. He has since worked in key business development, sales & product marketing, and market development services. Currently, he serves as Director of Corporate Affairs & Government Relations for Iredell Health System.
In 2007, Miles was elected to serve as a Commissioner At-Large for the Town of Mooresville and in 2011; Miles was elected as Mayor of Mooresville. Miles and his wife Kim married in 1995 and relocated to Mooresville in 1997 to start their family. They have two children; a daughter, Rett and a son, Liam; and an adorable granddaughter, Analeigh.
In 2016 the Top of the Lake Rotary Club presented Mayor Miles Atkins with the designation of Paul Harris Fellow. Atkins was chosen to receive this recognition in honor of his service to the Mooresville community. An award very special to him as his father also was a recipient of the award.
Miles has stayed constantly involved as an advocate for numerous social and health issues. This includes Gun Violence Prevention, the local Special Olympics, Tourette Syndrome, Lyme Disease, Substance Abuse, affordable housing for all citizens, a broad scope of our Veterans needs, racial equality, accountable healthcare, anti-bullying, and domestic violence.
