Recently proposed legislation seeks to increase the discretionary purchasing threshold from 150,000 to $ 1million. This allows NYC agencies to award contracts to small, minority and women owned businesses without a formal competitive process.

The Mayor of NYC has announced that the City intends to award 20 Billion to MWBEs by 2025 using a variety of procurement methods.

Discretionary purchases is an excellent way for MWBEs to gain access to the supply chain while concurrently acquiring the experience necessary to compete for larger projects.
