[SFOL] In Dialogue with Han Sai Por, Adele Tan and Guo-Liang Tan (in English and Mandarin)
Description
Join us as we invite artist, Han Sai Por, Senior Curator from the National Gallery Singapore, Adele Tan, and Guest Curator of “Strange Forms of Life”, Guo-Liang Tan, for a discussion situated around Han’s biocentric approach to abstraction. Exhibited alongside other notable local artists, Han’s paper pulp works, created at STPI’s in-house workshop, are presented as part of “Strange Forms of Life”, STPI Gallery’s ongoing exhibition. Han’s rich interest in organic and natural forms comes through most prominently in her works, offering an artistic vantage point from which a different and sincerely generative perspective of nature may be formed.

Her experiences have shaped her aesthetic language of understated, geometric, and organic forms; marble sculptures appear pliant, making for instantly recognisable works that speak of her years of experience. Her education in Fine Arts and Landscape Architecture strengthened her keen understanding of nature and the environment that influenced her work. Most of her works are inspired by the flora and fauna in tropical forests of Southeast Asia. They often comment on the changing landscape in the region and the deforestation that adversely impacts on the environment and ecosystem. Han has won international acclaim and participated in numerous international exhibitions and projects around the world. Adele Tan (Curator @National Gallery Singapore) Adele Tan received her PhD in art history from The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London and is currently Senior Curator at National Gallery Singapore. Her research focuses on contemporary art in Southeast Asia and China, with a special interest in performative practices, photography and new media. Her recent projects include the exhibition “Awakenings: Art in Society in Asia, 1960s to 1990s”, the 2019 annual Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission with the artist Charles Lim Yi Yong, and OUTBOUND, a series of large-scale site-specific artwork commissions at the Gallery. She also lectures in the Art History minor programme at the National University of Singapore. She was formerly Assistant Editor at the British art journal Third Text and her articles have appeared in numerous scholarly publications, exhibition catalogues, and journals such as PAJ, Broadsheet, Yishu, Eyeline and Third Text, among others.
