In 2019, several highly publicized attacks against Orthodox Jews awakened many non-Orthodox Jews to the reality of antisemitism in New York City. Meanwhile, programs like Unorthodox and Shtisel have sought to tell the stories of Haredi communities for a general audience, receiving both acclaim and criticism in the process. But Haredi Jews are more than the labels they are assigned: religious zealots on the one hand, or victims to be pitied on the other. This Remote ACCESS session will seek to unpack how young Jewish advocates can build bridges with the Haredi community, not only showing up during upticks of antisemitism, but engaging in regular, mutually beneficial dialogue.
