When ICMM launched the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management alongside the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), our members committed that all tailings facilities with ‘Extreme’ or ‘Very high’ potential consequences will be in conformance with the Standard by August 2023, and all other facilities by August 2025.
The Standard showed industry ‘what’ needed to be done to manage tailings facilities responsibly. Now, two new resources from ICMM will provide further guidance to industry on ‘how’ to responsibly manage tailings facilities at mine sites and corporate levels.
Join us on 6 May 2021 at 15:30 BST for the virtual launch of the Conformance Protocols for the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and ICMM’s Tailings Management Good Practice Guide.
During the 60-minute virtual event, Aidan Davy, ICMM's Chief Operating Officer, will introduce the resources and moderate a conversation between ICMM company and association members involved in their development; Adam Matthews who acted on behalf of PRI in the process of developing the Standard; and Professor Norbert Morgenstern, a world leading expert on tailings management who provided the call-to-action for and supported the development of ICMM’s Tailings Management Good Practice Guide. The moderated discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.
