WBG’s GWE Initiative: Public, Private, and Academic Collaboration for Strengthening the Weather Enterprise
As you might know, World Bank Group (WBG-GFDRR) is promoting collaboration between public, private, and academic (PPA) sectors as a part of its strategy to improve modernization programs for meteorological services in developing countries.
Our Council Member Dr. Jack Hayes, former Director of the U.S. National Weather Service, who is heading the GWE Committee of IFMS as its Chair, will be joined by Mr. Vladimir Tsirkunov—the team leader of Hydromet Program of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank Group. Mr. Tsirkunov is heading the GWE Initiative on behalf of GFDRR-WBG.
Since PPA Collaboration is an important part of the modus operandi from now on, we wish to keep our members informed and assist them in understanding this idea, which is beginning to grow in the Global Weather Enterprise.
WBG holds meetings in various conferences that can be attended by only those who can afford to travel to those meeting. For most people, the best way is through a series of webinars, which is what IFMS is offering to educate all our member societies and even National Hydro Met Services (NHMS).
