EARTH DAY SC Addresses Climate Crisis!
On Earth Day, South Carolinians are joining millions across the country in a day of learning and action demanding that political leaders respond to this emergency and financial leaders stop funding climate destruction.

Join us April 22 with expert panelists: Pastor Leo Woodberry, New Alpha Community Development Corp; Jim Gandy, former Chief Meteorologist for WLTX Columbia, and Dr. Kirstin Dow, Professor, University of South Carolina

Moderators Emma Sylves-Berry student, (University of South Carolina) & Amy Brooks (organizer, GreenFaith) will lead a discussion around four issues important to South Carolinians:
Renewable energy as an alternative to extractive fuels; sustainable land and water use; environmental justice; and
strategies to fight the climate crisis such as divestment.

What began as a dire cry for clean air and water fifty years ago has now reached a boiling point. The climate is in a state of emergency. South Carolinians are unifying believing that we all have a part to play in ending this crisis.

Before COVID-19 delayed our in-person event, a coalition united to bring a statewide Earth Day rally with speakers and teach-ins at the S.C. State House on the 50th anniversary of the original Earth Day. Realizing that faith communities have an important role to play, three friends from GreenFaith Columbia Circle invited other environmental organizations to help plan what organizers hope will be the largest Earth Day event in the state. Students at the University of SC Sierra Student Coalition collaborated to make this a youth-led event. After this Earth Day kick-off, organizers hope to continue online events through the summer until we can safely come together for a Columbia rally this fall.
