The price that we pay for a given procedure in the Health Care marketplace has historically been driven by an Insurance Carrier’s Network, and their perceived “discount”. The discount is driven by the Hospital or physician’s primary focal point. One hospital may provide a very significant discount to a carrier for maternal services, while asking for “billed charges” on orthopedic services. But to the consumer AND the employer sponsor, that information is hidden. So to the end user, it makes no difference where they go, because they don’t know what it will cost until AFTER they have had the procedure. This leads to inefficient utilization. So how has data enabled us to shift the paradigm on how people BUY healthcare. This session will dive into the transformation that is occurring right before our eyes, and how data plays a critical role in FIXING a healthcare system that is counter intuitive to any other purchase that any of us make.
