In Conversation Live with Baroness Helena Kennedy QC
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, one of Britain's most distinguished lawyers and Director of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute, will be joining Professor Roger Kirby, RSM President, for a conversation about her career and how she came to be involved in high-profile terrorism, domestic violence, and child abduction cases, her view on how the justice system is failing women, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted areas of human rights law.

Baroness Kennedy has spent her professional career giving voice to those who have the least power within the system, championing civil liberties and promoting human rights. She has conducted many prominent cases of terrorism, official secrets, domestic violence, and homicide. She is the founding force behind the establishment of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford. She has published two books on how the justice system is failing women and written and broadcast on a wide range of issues, from medical negligence to terrorism to the rights of women and children.

She has lectured on Human Rights, Criminal Law, medical negligence, and many other subjects, both in Britain and internationally. She was the Rose Sheinberg scholar-in-residence at New York University's School of Law in 2003. She delivered the Hamlyn Trust lecture for the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in 2002. She was a contributor to The Bar on Trial 1982, Child Sexual Abuse Within the Family 1985 and Balancing Acts 1989.
