Successful grazing and pasture management for beef and dairy cattle

In order to be efficient as possible using your grazing forage, dairy and cattle producers should have a grazing plan. Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Heins will discuss different grazing systems, and the importance of pasture management to maintain a successful grazing system.

After veterinary school, Joe worked as a private practitioner with beef and dairy farms at Anderson Veterinary Service in Zumbrota, MN. Currently, Dr. Joe is the Cattle Production Systems Extension Educator for the University of Minnesota where he focuses on educational programming for beef and dairy producers across the state. Brad Heins Ph.D (Dairy Specialist, Extension Educator @University of Minnesota) Dr. Heins received his Ph.D while working with dairy farms in California that were implementing crossbreeding programs. Currently, Dr. Heins is the faculty advisor for both the organic and convention dairies located at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris, MN. In this position, Dr. Heins conducts research with both organic and conventional grazing operations to improve production, economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, and the health and management of cattle.
