MODELLING IN THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR: IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT & GROUNDWATER QUALITY
Climate change and intensive land use are putting stress on water and nitrogen cycles. Precipitation variability and intensity as well. Stricter laws are causing the agricultural sector and its businesses to identify new, economic and technical solutions for the planning and management of resources. The primary goal is to guarantee harvests and their quality while boosting sustainability.

During this free 45 min. webinar (+ discussion) you will receive insight into how to secure harvests and their quality through hydrological and hydrodynamic modelling techniques. Presenters discuss two case studies, Saxony-Anhalt (Germany) and one international case, that represent successful irrigation strategies developed using the MIKE SHE modelling approach. Participants will experience in detail, how real-time modelling of irrigation systems can assist agricultural associations, chambers of commerce and government agencies to create diagnostic and informational material. Compliance and implementation of the European Water Framework Directive, integrated water resources management (IWRM) and the fertilizer ordinance can thus be realistically addressed through modelling. Doing so will help contribute to resource-efficient and sustainable agriculture.
