The Disabilities Issues Office (DIO) is celebrating Manitoba Access Awareness Week with a symposium on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 9:00 am to noon in Winnipeg.
This free learning event offers businesses and organizations a unique opportunity to consider How and Why to Support Accessible Employment and meet the requirements of the new Accessibility Standard for Employment.
Our keynote speaker is Maureen Haan, a Canadian expert on “The Business Case for Hiring Persons with Disabilities.” Ms. Haan presentation will be followed by an overview of how the Accessibility Standard for Employment can help your workplace recruit, hire and reach the full potential of a diverse workforce.
The remainder of the morning will focus on the standard’s requirements ensuring Safety Comes First, with a May 1, 2020 deadline. Moderated by Winnipeg’s Independent Living Resource Centre, a panel of individuals with disabilities will offer insights on how employers can collaborate with their employees to keep everybody safe.
If you require disability accommodations to participate in this webinar, please let our office know by calling 204-945-7613 or email Tracy.MacMillan@gov.mb.ca.
The Manitoba Government proclaims Manitoba Access Awareness Week annually to raise awareness about accessibility issues and the contribution of Manitobans with disabilities. Beginning in early June, there are a number of local champions hosting a variety of learning opportunities. The DIO is pleased to cohost its event with Manitoba Employment Equity Practitioners Association (MEEPA).
