In March of this year, a group called MindTheGap launched a registry for New Zealand businesses with over fifty employees to publicly register their pay gap. So far 55 businesses have done so.
The MindTheGap campaign, founded by Dellwyn Stuart and Jo Cribb says international evidence shows that when we shed some light on our pay gaps, we can get to work on closing them.
Pay gaps reflect women, Maori, Pasifika, and ethnic groups' underrepresentation in senior roles, over-representation in low-paid and insecure work, the unequal distribution of unpaid caring work, and the impact of bias and discrimination. Earning less through a lifetime of working also impacts retirement.
Dellwyn and Jo say overseas experience shows there are a lot of advantages for businesses that publicly register their pay gaps. Join Dellwyn and Jo for a discussion on MindTheGap on this BusinessNZ Network webinar on 27 June.
