This month we will take a deep dive into the reporting of doping in sport. While whistleblowing is effective for exposing doping, little is known or understood about the actual whistleblowing process. Speaking up is a complex series of steps and decisions that may lead to career- and life-altering implications for whistleblowers. To this day, majority of athletes feel like they have to choose between their careers and telling the truth.
During this session we will hear from Toby Atkins, a former professional cyclist and a whistleblower who has worked with a number of International Federations and Anti-Doping Organizations in the area of anti-doping education. Also joining us is Kelsey Erickson, Executive Director of Athlete Health & Wellness at USA Cycling and a researcher with a particular interest in raising the athletes’ voice and underlining the complexity of doping and whistleblowing in sport. Finally, the ITA Cycling Unit Intelligence & Investigations Manager François Marclay will join us to speak about Reveal, the new ITA whistleblowing platform.
