Working to Learn: Challenges and Solutions for America’s Education-to-Employment System
Workers from underrepresented communities, particularly communities of color, have both been most affected by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic and traditionally have faced the largest systemic barriers to social and economic opportunity in America. These communities are wellsprings of insight and talent where people are poised to take advantage of stronger pathways to learning and earning amidst accelerating changes in our workforce and economy.

Yet a new study released by Harvard’s interdisciplinary Project on Workforce - “Working to Learn: Despite a growing set of innovators, America struggles to connect education and career” - shows that there are stark challenges and transformative opportunities for the growing field of organizations seeking to connect postsecondary education with employment. The research utilizes a unique dataset of 316 applications to New Profit's Postsecondary Innovation for Equity initiative, an open grant competition for programs seeking to connect postsecondary education and employment.

In the “Working to Learn: Challenges and Solutions for America’s Education-to-Employment System” webinar, the report's authors will walk through the research findings to share key insights into the state of education and employment. A panel discussion on the promise of postsecondary innovation will follow, to identify takeaways for funders, business leaders, policymakers, and practitioners invested in catalyzing systemic and sustainable innovation in this sector.
