How does access and benefit sharing (ABS) contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

It is widely recognised that, without effective measures to conserve biodiversity and use its components in a sustainable manner, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will not be achievable. Much less discussed is how efforts to further the third objective of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) – the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the utilization of genetic resources - contribute to the implementation of the SDGs.

This webinar will present positive impacts and lessons learned from a range of practical experiences with ABS and highlight the way in which ABS advances sustainable development. The event is organised by the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT), GeoMedia and the Institute for Biodiversity Network, in collaboration with the CBD Secretariat, and is based on the outcomes of a research project supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN).
