Implementation is just the starting point – using digital technology and data to improve patient safety & care
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in South East Wales has successfully deployed System C's CareFlow Vitals e-observations on 90 inpatient wards across 10 hospitals, including the brand-new 500-bed Grange University Hospital opened in November 2020, four months earlier than planned to help cope with the demands of the Covid pandemic.

Vitals has proved invaluable, providing up-to-the-minute data during COVID. The Health Board also utilised System C’s CareFlow Connect care coordination app to support socially-distanced clinical communication and remote working during COVID for its Critical Care Service.

But, as the Wachter review pointed out, implementation of a clinical information system is just the starting point. The Health Board is working now to roll out additional CareFlow Vitals modules and to use the CareFlow Connect application more broadly. It is also undertaking novel research with Cardiff University using CareFlow data to understand and improve the safety and efficiency of processes.
