The Brook Street Band is delighted to continue its series of online masterclasses, this time exploring wonderful baroque music composed for solo violin, from a wealth of composers including JS Bach, Biber, Telemann and Westhoff.
3 participants (approximate minimum standard Grade 7+) will work with Rachel Harris on their choice of solo violin repertoire from the baroque period, plus we have room for up to 100 observers. The masterclass ends with a live Q&A session where you’ll be able to ask Rachel specific questions about repertoire or technical issues.
If you’d like to perform, please send your choice of piece, plus a brief CV of your playing experience to firstname.lastname@example.org. Places are limited so please don't delay!
This masterclass takes place on Saturday 6 March 2.30-4.30pm via Zoom webinar. Performers will have a 30-minute performance slot to work on their chosen piece with Rachel.
Violinist Rachel Harris has been a member of The Brook Street Band since 1997, and is the founder and director of Ensemble Schirokko Hamburg, which she formed in 2007. She has produced numerous CDs to critical acclaim with both ensembles. As well as teaching privately, Rachel is frequently invited to coach both baroque and modern orchestras. She is a guest coach and lecturer at the Hochschule für Muik und Theater Hamburg. In the UK, Rachel coaches chamber music at various organisations including the Dartington International Summer School.
The Sunday Times reviewed Rachel's recording of the Handel violin sonatas: ‘erudite, intimate music, not without violinistic fireworks. The BSB include cello alongside harpsichord for the continuo, satisfyingly grounding the texture. Rachel Harris delivers these eloquent expressions of the violinist’s art with stylish sweetness, her embellishments beautifully measured.’
