A Journey into the Cultural Dances of the Arab World: Raqs Arabi
Celebrate music and dance from the Arabian Peninsula/Raqs Khaliji, the Levant Region/Raqs Shami, North Africa/Raqs Maghrebi and Egypt/Raqs Masri. This virtual lecture-demonstration is hosted by Beena from Charleston, SC with live drumming from guest percussionist, David Metz from Seattle, WA.

Beena was influenced by the Egyptian and Lebanese styles of Arabic dance; both folkloric and classical oriental. She has also studied, performed and presented cultural dances from the Gulf and the Levant. She currently teaches private lessons and group classes in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley. Learn more about her work at www.DancingBeena.com.

David Metz is a Graphic Designer and a Sound Engineer. In 2003, David discovered the Arabic Tabla. As an artist and musician, the sounds and rhythms of the Middle East, and the people and cultures from which they arose, reached deep into his heart and stirred a love that has continued growing every day. Since then, he has attended Georges Lammam’s Middle Eastern Music Camp in Mendocino, CA and Karim Nagi’s Arabic Dance Seminar.
