Patients with chronic kidney disease need to balance their complex medical condition with the demands of daily life while maintaining emotional well-being. Dr. Brenda Hemmelgarn is the research lead of the SPOR (Strategy for Patient Oriented Research) - Can-SOLVE CKD research project, Strategies to enhance patient self-management of CKD. This research project aims to understand how to empower patients to self-manage their chronic kidney disease to improve disease progression and overall patient experience and well-being. Dr. Hemmelgarn will share the findings of the research project and showcase the CKD self-management tool that is being developed as part of the Can-SOLVE CKD study and their patient partners.

Dwight Sparkes lives in St John’s and works as a Senior Application Analyst with Newfoundland & Labrador Centre for Health Information. In 2014, Dwight was diagnosed with chronic tubulo-interstitial nephritis, caused by drug interaction while undergoing treatment for his vasculitis.
