Jorge Calzada, MD, PhD

Dr. Jorge Calzada graduated valedictorian from his hometown University of Panama Medical School in 1996. He completed a basic neuroscience research fellowship, followed by ophthalmology residency and retina surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee. He joined Charles Retina Institute as vitreoretinal surgeon until 2019. He founded Panamerican Vitreoretinal Consultants in the Republic of Panama and later the specialty clinic Deep Blue Retina in the Memphis metro region in Tennessee. In the research space he has been principal investigator for over a dozen clinical trials, including phase 1, 2 and 3 studies, in the fields of macular diseases and gene therapy. He has worked with industry in the development of microsurgical tools and digital microscopy. He graduated as Surgical Leadership Scholar from Harvard Medical School and is adjunct professor of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Nebraska and has performed over 6000 vitrectomy surgeries.
Brian Horsman, MD

Dr. Brian Horsman has 16 years of experience in Micropulse laser treatments. Dr. Horsman was born in New Brunswick Canada. His undergraduate degree BSc. was in Psychology at Dalhousie University, Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada. He completed his MD degree in 1978 at Dalhousie University. He practiced Family Medicine and ER medicine for 3 years in Saint John NB. Postgraduate studies at Dalhousie University included 4 years of residency studies in Ophthalmology including one year of pathology. A fellowship in Retina at The University of Wisconsin, Madison was completed in 1988. In 1995, he joined the surgical staff at Barnet Dulaney Eye Center becoming the first Retinal Surgeon in the group. Over the past 23 years, the Retina group has grown to 6 surgeons under his leadership. Dr. Horsman is the Director of the Retinal Department at the Barnet Dulaney Perkins. He has performed over 13,000 Retinal surgical procedures and hundreds of thousands of laser surgeries.
Glenn Yiu, MD, PhD

Dr. Glenn Yiu is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UC Davis. He earned his dual MD-PhD degrees at Harvard Medical School, residency training at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, and vitreoretinal fellowship at Duke. He joined UC Davis as a clinician-scientist and vitreoretinal surgeon in 2014, where he now leads a translational research program studying age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other retinal diseases. His focuses include ocular imaging technologies, gene editing and delivery, and animal models of retinal disease. He reported the first use of CRISPR-based genome editing as a treatment strategy for wet AMD, discovered the use of microneedles for suprachoroidal viral injections for gene delivery, and pioneered important studies on drusen evolution in rhesus monkeys.
