This session offers a general overview of how a registered naturopathic doctor working in the field of supportive cancer care may assist patients during their conventional cancer treatment and afterwards. We will review some of the most commonly used evidence-based therapies and/or dietary recommendations and discuss when they might be used to complement standard cancer care, as well as provide an overview of the safety of those products.

Dr. Jill Shainhous
Naturopath @Insight Naturopathic Clinic
Dr. Shainhouse opened the Insight Naturopathic Clinic, located in midtown Toronto in 2004. Dr. Shainhouse’s practice is exclusive to adjunctive cancer care, and she strives to help patients improve their clinical outcome and quality of life using an evidence-based approach to care. Dr. Shainhouse was a clinic faculty member for many years at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Teaching Clinic, during which she helped begin the Adjunctive Cancer Care Program, now the Integrative Cancer Centre. Since then, Dr. Shainhouse began to supervise a clinical observation program for naturopathic interns at the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre and the Odette Cancer Centre both located at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Shainhouse’s goal in founding this program was to improve the quality of clinical education of naturopathic medical students. Dr. Shainhouse currently volunteers as the Naturopathic Advisor for ReThink Breast Cancer, and has lectured at Wellspring Cancer Support
