Doing a Dan Wile (60 minutes long)
When couples come to therapy, expressing their thoughts and feelings to one another can be challenging. The goal of the Dan Wile intervention, named after the creator of Collaborative Couple Therapy, is to articulate the emotions that are in the room. What do your clients feel? What do they need?

When using the Dan Wile intervention, the therapist will speak empathetically for one partner to the other. Sometimes they will add the unspoken positive feelings they know are there, and articulate the inner dialogue the person is probably having within himself or herself, but which is also not getting said. It turns attacks, defensiveness, and withdrawals into self-disclosures.

In this webinar with Carrie Cole, Certified Gottman Therapist and Research Director of The Gottman Institute, you will learn how to successfully introduce the Dan Wile intervention when working with a couple. It can be an intense experience, and ensuring that the couple is comfortable is crucial.

Carrie will show video clips of Dr. Julie Gottman demonstrating the Dan Wile intervention with a real couple from her private practice, pausing throughout to provide explanation and commentary. She will then open it up to the live audience for questions. This is more than a webinar—it’s a conversation.
