The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute welcomes Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens for the next installment of its Meet the Mayor virtual conversation series at 10:00 a.m. CT Tuesday, July 13. Stephens and Institute Director John Shaw will discuss economic development and revitalization in Murphysboro, Stephens’ political career, and his experience working in broadcast media.
When Stephens was elected mayor of Murphysboro in 2013 at 31 years old, he became the youngest mayor in the town’s history. Before that, he had served on the Jackson County Board from 2010 to 2012.
Stephens also is the general manager of WXAN 103.9 FM, a Christian radio station. He hosts a daily talk show, “The Will Stephens Show,” in which he interviews elected officials, gospel artists, authors, and business leaders. Southern Illinoisans will also recognize his voice as the host of the “Electric Blues Hours,” a weekly blues music show that airs on WDBX 91.1 FM. He is a Southern Illinois University alumnus.
This program is part of the Institute’s Meet the Mayor series of virtual conversations with mayors from Illinois communities.
