Underwater Sonar Imaging and Modeling in Extreme Environments
Underwater acoustic imaging technology has improved in recent years and is a great solution to capture images of underwater structures in situations not providing safe access to dive teams. This presentation details the history of why and how underwater inspections have traditionally been conducted, as well as recent initiatives that have lead to increased use of sonar technologies. Three unique and exceptionally difficult underwater inspection case studies will be discussed where acoustic imaging was particularly valuable to the project. Additionally, current ongoing initiatives for promoting and advancing these technologies within the underwater inspection industry will be discussed.
